Stepping out of my comfort zone.

As Christmas draws near I've been challenged to really do something that really does not define me. Yeah, do something like joining the Christmas choir and dance team. Many people were surprised (don't blame them really). Most laughed (don't blame them too). Heck, even my own parents laughed. So much for the support. But anyway despite regretting many, many times over my decisions, I think I'll go ahead and give it a shot. Sort of a personal challenge. Clara has been very kind and sweet to reassure me that I'll be fine and she even joined both the choir and dance because of me. By the way, I'm singing bass in the choir. Not too bad although I find it tough to project my voice. My vocal range isn't that wide either. My normal reaction will be I'll just lip synch if I can't reach/remember/keep up with the parts. But I decided I'll just put in some effort into this and then I'll really know if I'm bad or not. So far, I'm really bad. Feel intimidated by my fellow bass partner, Salmon, this African dude who has a really deep, bassy voice. I, on the other hand, sound like some chicken screeching.

Same goes for dance. I knew I definitely cannot do this but I decided to this for a friend who's organising it and was really desperate for dancers. Choir was already beginning to feel like a big mistake and I actually let myself believe that maybe I could dance. Started first practice yesterday and it was a disaster. Now I know what kayu means. Even managed to draw laughs (the big, loud ones) every time I made a mistake. Oh well, at least I livened up the atmosphere a little bit. =)

Oh and I had another first when I went for a haircut. Not related to Christmas but this was definitely a first for me. My usual stylist wasn't in so I was asked if another person can do the job instead. Yeah sure...no problem. Then I was asked if a student stylist can cut my hair for half the price. Even better, I'm trying to save money. Then I was asked again if I really did not mind another person cutting my hair. Hey lady, I said yes right? Only when the guy started cutting my hair did I realise why the lady reassured me. The student stylist seemed like he was cutting hair for the first time and I was the guinea pig! His supervisor a.k.a. sifu was there to guide him. Every time he took a snip of my hair his supervisor would correct him. Know how to cut hair wan or not?!? Damn supervisor didn't stay there the whole time, apparently to give the student space to breathe. My hair turned out okay in the end. Did not expect much anyway. The back was still too long but I dare not risk asking him to cut again. I got Joshua to trim it for me and you know what? I think Joshua would have done a better job. Cheers.
